De-Powerable Water Re-launchable Foil (Bridle-less)

Introduction:

The most talked about kite to ever come for the Peter Lynn stable, the guerrilla is the latest incarnation of the well known, little flown ARC series of kites.

Packaging, Style + Construction:

The Guerilla is a closed foil (meaning it has special valves on the inlets that allows it to be crashed in water and relaunched) that takes the form of and LEI (the ‘pump up' style of kite that is common among kitesurfers) i.e. It has no bridles as such, instead the lines attach at each tip of the kite to carbon battens.

This kite also shares the depower ability of the LEI style kites by changing its angle of attack. This is a very efficient way of depowering!

The construction is of a high quality and looks like it should last a good time. The carbon tips look good and beefy, and are readily available as a spare should you be unfortunate enough to break one.

The bag is quite a strange shape, more of a tube than a bag! However it is nice n funky looking with lots of mesh to allow easy sand removal and has good padded handles and a clip on/off shoulder strap. The size is clearly shown, so when you get a quiver of them, you can easily find the right one!

Jumping:

This review is based on the 10m Guerilla in 15-20 mph clean sea winds.

Right. After a little pre-inflation, a failed launch, then a little more pre-inflation, the kite rose straight up to zenith. At full depower, it would just sit there, you could hardly feel any lift or power! A little tug in on the bar and you can just pop up a couple of feet J . A little bit of flying round and scudding later, I decided to give a pendulum jump ago, nice and conservative like............wow! This thing is a float machine! Really quick turning and ample stability mean you can keep the kite in ‘the zone' for that little bit longer before redirecting… Nice.

KiteATB’ing:

Ok, kiteboarding…… Now this is what the kite is made for.....its like its goal in life is to sit there and produce nice smooth power, loadsa lift, great upwind and be the most stable kite I've ever flown! Try one!

Notes:

Ok… a couple of points to make.

  • I feel that I really must emphasise the stability and auto zenith properties…. You've probably heard the hype…. Well… Its true! Let go of the bar, and the kite slowly drifts upwards under little power!
  • I have had lots of experience flying LEI style kites, so the crossover may have been easier for me than for people who have never flown this type before, but still, it won't take long to get used to it and to start exploiting it!
  • The kite requires a little longer set-up/pack down time as you can't really leave the lines attached. Also you will need to allow the kite to pre-inflate… not a problem in good breeze, but can take a while in lighter winds (sub 10 mph)
  • Like the Ozone Frenzy03, this is not really suited to very light winds (sub 8 mph). Maybe the larger sizes are, but the 10 didn't really have any power in less than 8mph, and powering up stalled it.
  • TRY BEFORE YOU BUY!
